The following programs are opensource/freeware/shareware programs that provide varying levels of GIS processing
Diva-GIS User-friendly, includes spatial analysis functions.
Quantum GIS - Browse, create maps - supports common formats.
Christine GIS - Lightweight, simple and basic GIS software.
SAGA GIS - Fully open source, powerful application.
ESRI Software
ESRI, a major GIS software provider has 3 free software programs available that
do some basic applications. Explanations on these programs and what they do are
provided here.
ArcExplorer - A dataviewer that you install on your desktop
ArcWeb Explorer - A data viewer based on the web (server) that allows you to look at maps, perform basic geocoding and choropleth mapping.
ArcExplorer - An application that allows you to fuse your data with data available on other servers
Enrollment in a GIS class or to be a researcher in the department that hosts the lab usually a requirement to use these labs.
