About Manoa MAGIS

The library is expanding its array of spatial information services to include on-line viewing of aerial photography and supporting Geographic Information Systems teaching and research on campus.

Our Mission

To serve the UH-Manoa community, the citizens of Hawaii, the Asia-Pacific region and researchers worldwide by connecting them to spatial information (Maps, Aerial Photographs, GIS), in its analog or digital forms to enhance and integrate geographic information in their teaching and research.

As part of this expansion, plans are underway to have a physical center to bring together Maps, Aerial Photographs and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services.

MAGIS is an acryonm for Maps, Aerials and GIS. To this end, we have already acquired a large format unit to help us scan, print and copy poster size items. Future plans include PCs with GIS software and a server to serve out aerial photographs and GIS data.

MAGIS also means "more" and "better" in latin. The name of this spatial services unit is indeed intentional, as they commensurate with the broader goals of the university, the library and of Manoa MAGIS.We welcome your comments and suggestions for improving the web site, related services and the up-coming Manoa MAGIS center.
